An inventor from Missouri, USA, formerly named Andrew Wilson (a very nice name), was granted legal permission last week to change his name to the pronoun,“They”. He won't have a surname. He will just be known as They. His new name will be printed on his driver's license.
They explained why he did it, “‘They do this,’ or ‘They're to blame for that. Who is this ‘they’ everyone talks about? ‘They’ accomplish such great things. Somebody had to take responsibility.”
They has gotten quite a bit of publicity from his new name. He went on the Jay Leno Show, where he talked about his latest invention, sunglasses with small visors over the lenses. We also have They to thank for “Ground-Effect lighting,” (neon lights under your car), which is his most profitable invention so far.
They even has his final act already planned. When he dies, he hopes to be put into a bright-yellow floating plastic coffin — he invented it himself — and pushed out to sea. This “Seapod” will have a plaque reading, “Here lies They. I've traveled in life, as I now travel in death. If I should wash ashore, please push me back out to sea, that I may continue my endless journey.”
